HMC135 Features

HMC135 General Description

HMC135 Typical Applications

The HMC135 is suitable for:
• Wireless Local Loop
• LMDS & VSAT
• Point-to-Point Radios
• Test EquipmentThe HMC135 Bi-Phase Modulator is designed tophase-modulate an RF signal into reference and180 degree states. Device input is at the RF portand output is at the LO port. The polarity of thebias current at the control port (IF port) defi nes thephase states. Excellent amplitude and phase balanceprovided by closely matched monolithic balun anddiode circuits delivers 30 dB of carrier suppression ina tiny monolithic chip. The device also functions as a demodulator or phasecomparator. As a demodulator, data emerges at thecontrol port when a modulated signal at the RF portis compared to a reference signal at the LO port.As a phase comparator, the phase angle betweentwo signals applied to the RF and LO ports isrepresented by an analog voltage at the control port.Except for carrier suppression, the data presentedhere was measured under static conditions in whicha DC bias current (nominally 5 mA) is applied to thecontrol port.ParameterMin.Typ.Max.UnitsFrequency Band1.8 - 5.2GHzInsertion Loss911dBReturn Loss, RF and LO Ports2.53.0dBAmplitude Balance0.20.5dBPhase Balance2.55.0DegCarrier Suppression (When driven with a 1 MHz square wave, 1.4 Vp-p)2530dBcInput Power for 1 dB Compression08dBmThird Order Intercept, Input510dBmSecond Order Intercept, Input1530dBmBias Current (Bias current forward biases internal Schottky diodes providing approximately 0.6 Vat the control port).2510mA
