The CMOS bq3287E/bq3287EA is alow-power microprocessor periph-eral providing a time-of-day clockand 100-year calendar with alarmfeatures and battery operation.Otherfeaturesincludethreemaskable interrupt sources, square-wave output, and 242 bytes of gen-eralnonvolatilestorage.A32.768kHz output is available forsustaining power-management ac-tivities.Wake-up capability is pro-vided by an alarm interrupt, which isactive in battery-backup mode.Thebq3287EA version is identical to thebq3287E, with the addition of theRAM clear input.The bq3287E is a fully compatiblereal-time clock for IBM AT-compatiblecomputers and other applications. Thebq3287E write-protects the clock, cal-endar, and storage registers duringpower failure. The integral backup en-ergy source then maintains data andoperates the clock and calendar.As shipped from Benchmarq, thereal time clock is turned off to maxi-mize battery capacity for in-systemoperation.The bq3287E is functionally equiva-lent to the bq3285E, except the bat-tery (16,20) and crystal pins (2,3)are not accessible. These pins areconnected internally to a coin celland quartz crystal. The coin cell issized to provide 10 years of data re-tention and clock operation in theabsence of power.
