ISO721DUB 3 Description

The ISO721, ISO721M, ISO722, and ISO722M areisolators with a logic input and output bufferdigitalseparated by a silicon dioxide (SiO2)insulationbarrier. This barrier provides galvanic isolation of upto 4000 VPK per VDE. Used in conjunction withisolated power supplies, these devices prevent noisecurrents on a data bus or other circuits from enteringthe local ground, and interfering with or damagingsensitive circuitry.A binary input signalis conditioned, translated to abalanced signal, then differentiated by the capacitiveisolation barrier. Across the isolation barrier, adifferential comparator receives the logic transitioninformation,then sets or resets a flip-flop and theoutput circuit accordingly. A periodic update pulse issent across the barrier to ensure the proper dc levelof the output.the inputIf this dc-refresh pulse is not received for more than 4μs,is assumed to be unpowered or notbeing actively driven, and the failsafe circuit drivesthe output to a logic-high state.The symmetry of the dielectric and capacitor withinthe integrated circuitry provides for close capacitivematching, and allows fast transient voltage changesbetween the input and output grounds withoutcorrupting the output. The small capacitance andresulting time constant provide for fast operation withsignaling rates from 0 Mbps (DC) to 100 Mbps for theISO721 and the ISO722 devices, and 0 Mbps to 150Mbps with the ISO721M and the ISO722M devices.These devices require two supply voltages of 3.3 V, 5inputs are 5-V tolerantV, or any combination. Allwhen supplied from a 3.3-V supply and all outputsare 4 mA CMOS.The ISO722 and ISO722M devices include an active-low output enable that when driven to a high logiclevel, places the outputin a high-impedance stateand turns off internal bias circuitry to conserve power.Both the ISO721 and ISO722 devices have TTL inputthresholds and a noise filter at the input that preventtransient pulses of up to 2 ns in duration from beingpassed to the output of the device.The ISO721M and ISO722M devices have CMOSVCC / 2 input thresholds, but do not have the noise-filter and the additional propagation delay. Thesefeatures ofthe ISO721M device also provide forreduced-jitter operation.The ISO721,devices are characterized for operation overambient temperature range of –40°C to 125°C.ISO722, and ISO722MtheISO721M,Device Information(1)Simplified Schematic
