The PVA33 Series AC Relay (PVA) is a single-pole, normally open, solid-state replacement forelectromechanical relays used for general purposeswitching of analog signals. It utilizes InternationalRectifier’s HEXFET power MOSFETs as the outputswitches, driven by an integrated circuit photovoltaicgenerator of novel construction. The output switch iscontrolled by radiation from a GaAlAs light emittingdiode (LED), which is optically isolated from thephotovoltaic generator. The PVA33 Series overcomes the limitations ofboth conventional electromechanical and reedrelays by offering the solid state advantages oflong life, fast operating speed, low pick up power,bounce-free operation, low thermal offset voltagesand miniature package. These advantages allowproduct improvement and design innovations in manyapplications such as process control, multiplexing, automatic test equipment and data acquisition. The PVA33 can switch analog signals from thermocouplelevel to 300 Volts peak AC or DC polarity. Signalfrequencies into the RF range are easily controlledand switching rates up to 500Hz are achievable. Theextremely small thermally generated offset voltagesallow increased measurement accuracies. These relays are packaged in 8-pin, molded DIPpackages and available with either thru-hole or surface-mount (“gull-wing”) leads, in plastic shipping tubes.
